The School
The American School of Santo Domingo is a college preparatory school with a U.S. curriculum offered in English.  ASSD provides education encompassing intellectual and social growth, building on the same mission that has inspired and guided us for more than 25 years.  While our immediate objective is to prepare students for the next step of their educational journey, our ultimate goal is to guide them toward being competent, concerned, responsible, and ethical members of society.  Our students and our graduates are the best proof of our success.

The American School was founded in 1981 as a PK-12th school to meet the needs of Dominican, Foreign and Diplomatic families who reside in the Dominican Republic and who were interested in obtaining quality American education in the English language,  Also, one that would comply with the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Education.  Classes began that same year at our temporary quarters in the Piantini sector of Santo Domingo, and in 1987 we relocated to our present campus to accommodate a booming enrollment.  ASSD has been located in the scenic and luxuriant Arroyo Hondo district in Santo Domingo ever since.  Our campus has an extension of 12,000 square meters and includes a building to house our classrooms, indoor gym, music room and administrative offices, an amphitheater, two soccer fields, basketball and volleyball courts, a cafeteria and roofed eating area.

Our reputation as an outstanding academic institution has grown, although we have remained a relatively small school since our focus is to maintain a family oriented environment, where each student is recognized as an individual and each family forms part of our decision making.  The school offers diverse co-curricular activities in academic, cultural and athletic disciplines.  Ninety-nine percent of our graduating class go-on to college in the United States and, the other one percent attend college and universities in the Dominican Republic.  Three-fourths of faculty holds a Masters degree.  Students hail from the United States, Europe, South and Central America, Asia, Canada, as well as the Dominican Republic.
